DAY - 1 MONDAY

Lisbon

Arrival to Lisbon. Transfer to the hotel. Free time. Our tour leader will contact you at the
end of the day.

DAY - 2 TUESDAY
Lisbon
In the morning, we will do sight-seeing of the city, visiting the Belem quarter, where great
Portuguese navigators departed to cross the oceans of the XV century. Free time in the
afternoon, or, if you prefer, an optional excursion to the villages of Sintra and Cascais. In
the evening, we include a transfer to the Barrio Alto, a typical quarter with numerous restaurants and Fado houses.
DAY - 3 WEDNESDAY
Lisbon, Albufeira, Lagos, Faro, Tavira
We will depart early towards the south of Portugal. Pretty landscapes abound near the long bridge crossing the Tagus river. Arrival to ALGARVE, the southern Portugal region. Free time in ALBUFEIRA, a lovely coastal town. You can enjoy its beach or walk around the lively historic centre. We will continue to the nearby town of LAGOS, with its port and walls. Time for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit CAPE SAN VICENTE, the windswept tip of Europe, and FARO, Algarve's capital. Accommodation in TAVIRA, a romantic town in the south of Portugal.
DAY - 4 THURSDAY
Tavira, Mertola, Evora
After a stroll along the riverside in Tavira we will visit CONCELHO VELHO, a tiny white and
blue village by the Atlantic Ocean. We will continue our tour towards the ALENTEJO. By the Guadiana riverside we will visit MERTOLA, an ancient Muslim town with walls and white streets, whose church was an old mosque. Arrival to EVORA by lunchtime. Free time to discover this city, which has been inhabited for more than 2000 years and was recently designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Property. It is undoubtedly one of Portugal's prettiest cities. You can also relax in the hotel's swimming pools.
DAY - 5 FRIDAY
Evora, Vila Vicosa ,Marvao, Almourol, Tomar, Fátima.
Today we will see the centre of Portugal. Stop in VILA VICOSA with its huge palace in the middle of the Alentejo. We pass Porto Alegre before arriving to MARVAO, a lovely village with walls overlooking the border. In CASTELO DE VIDE we will have time for lunch and a walk along its white streets. We then visit ALMOUROL, a little medieval castle on an island in the Tagus River. We include a boat trip and entrance. We will then go to TOMAR, a city dominated by the Convento de Cristo, an ancient Templar castle-monastery, entrance included. Arrival to FATIMA. You can, if you wish, attend the Candle Procession. Dinner included.
DAY - 6 SATURDAY
Fátima, Oporto.
We will travel to the north of Portugal. Arrival to OPORTO, the second largest city of Portugal. Sightseeing tour included of this city, its historic quarter and the Douro River.
We include the entrance and visit to an old wine cellar. Free time.
DAY - 7 SUNDAY
Oporto, Braga, Guimaraes, Mateus, Lamego.
Today we will see the picturesque landscapes of northern Portugal. A walk in BRAGA, religious capital of Portugal, with its ancient Cathedral. We will catch the world's oldest funicular to reach the Bom Jesus sanctuary, where the scenery is spectacular. We suggest walking down on foot and admiring the fine stairway. GUIMARAES was the first capital of Portugal, and so its Dukes Palace reminds us. Time for lunch. In the afternoon we will see the gardens of Mateus (well known for its wines). Beautiful views full of vineyards in the Douro River valley. We will take a 30 minute train trip from the ancient station of Pinhao to Peso de Regua. Then on to LAMEGO, a beautiful town. Accommodation and dinner included in the hotel of the Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios, a lovely area surrounded by gardens.
DAY - 8 MONDAY
Lamego, Coimbra, Batalha, Nazare, Obidos, Lisbon.
We travel to the South. Free time in COIMBRA, the third largest city of Portugal, with a historic University and charming steep streets. After that, we will stop in the MONASTERY OF BATALHA, an impressive medieval building where the kings are buried. Time for lunch and a walk in NAZARE, a fishing and spa coastal town. Delightful views of the Ocean.On the way to Lisbon, we will stop in OBIDOS, one of the prettiest villages in Portugal, with its white streets full of flowers.Lisbon- arrival in the evening. End of trip (transfer out included).
