The courses on the islands of S. Miguel and Terceira are all accessible by international airport.
In S. Miguel, the Furnas and Batalha courses provide differing styles of challenge. Try them both. Furnas, a par 72 runs between majestic Japanese cedar trees and was designed by Bob Cameron. The broad fairways of Batalha provide a smoother ride over its three 9-hole loops. To finish, the traditionally styled clubhouse provides all the style for a glass of something refreshing between the surrounding green and the ocean blue.On Terceira, lakes and thousands of flowers render these fairways of beauty. However, do not be misled. They hide challenges for the most experienced of golfers.
Set on a historic site (the name Batalha derives from the battle waged here between liberal and absolutist troops in the 19th century fighting for political control of the island of São Miguel), the most recent golf course in the Azores stands on a plain close to Ponta Delgada, with quite different features from those to be found at the nearby course of Furnas, which is essentially a mountain course.
To the North, the course faces seawards, whilst in the East it looks towards the hills, with higher mountains to the South. The fact that the course was built on volcanic rock created difficulties in its design and has resulted in a spectacular contrast between the green playing areas and the dry woods standing on rocky soil to the side of these. The holes are long and wide with large undulating greens, flanked by tall trees.
The course has a complete set of infrastructures that make it possible to hold the Azores Open, the most important local competition, with an international character.

The Achada das Furnas course offers a pleasant round in natural surroundings of tremendous beauty, close to the famous Lagoa das Furnas.
The Furnas course was designed in 1939 by the famous Scottish architect Mackenzie Ross. In 1986, another nine holes were added under the supervision of the Englishman Cameron Powell, although this did not alter the course´s original characteristics (fairways flanked by trees on either side and small undulating greens) and today it is almost impossible to distinguish the new from the old.
The course is roughly 40 minutes from Ponta Delgada and each year it hosts the most important international golfing event in the Azores - the Sata Azores Open - in conjunction with the Batalha course.

It was inaugurated in 1954, 13 km from the town of Angra do Heroísmo and 10 Km from Praia da Vitória.
Some 350 metres above sea level, the Course is in the countryside, with smooth slopes, tall trees, six artificial lakes and ravines. The great number of flowers, mainly azaleas and hortensias, lend great beauty and colour to a typically Azorean countryside.
Hole 18, with a par 3, is considered the most difficult due to its steeply sloping green protected by a lake.
Before this, however, golfers, whatever their level, will have already been presented with a series of different challenges, such as that of hole 10 (par 4 that crosses a ravine and has water just in front) and hole 17, a long par 5, where again water makes play difficult.
