At
Fatima eveything is as simple and unpretentious as the landscape
of the surrounding highlands and fields. It was in this setting
of simplicity and truth, in the very heart of nature, that on
13th May 1917 three little shepherds were peacefully pasturing
their sheep when they had the first astonishing vision that was
repeated five times during the next months.
The
Apparition told them that she was the Mother of God, and made
known to them various wishes and warnings. The message of Fatima
without any publicity, passed from mouth to mouth and crossed
the frontiers of Portugal. Today, with multitudes which on one
day can number 1 million, Fatima can be considered one of the
world's most famous Marian Shrines.
